Taking out the garbage geometry with KeyCreator

Have you been working with CAD files that need to be repaired or cleaned up? This week’s Tech Tip deals with fixing bad, or “dirty,” geometry within a design. In this video, you will learn basic tools to fill in gaps, verifying a solid and more using KeyCreator.

Simplifying a Solid

Select Tools, Maintenance, Simplify Body

Select solid to simplify then Accept

A dialog window will open with the geometry analysis information

Select the Show All Faces button to colorize the faces by type

Select Backup

Select Fix Body to simplify the faces

Select Show Changed Faces

This will colorize only the changed faces

Select Backup

Select the Show All Faces button to colorize the faces by type

Verifying a Solid

Select Tools, Verify, Body

Select only the first option in the small dialog window that opens. Then select OK

Select the solid or sheet body (open solid)

A dialog window will open with the results

If there were no problems with the solid then all these would be greyed out

Any openings in the solid will be highlighted

Now let’s fix the openings in the solid

Select Create, Surfaces, Ruled

Select OK in the dialog window

Select the 2 edges to create the surface

Select Create, Advanced, Surfaces, Cover

Select Non-Tangent then OK

Select Chain then Circuit

Select one of the edges and the entire opening will select automatically
